Here you will find basic information on the main chakra system. Chakras are energy centers located throughout the subtle body. These energy centers receive, assimilate and transmit life force energies. Although there are hundreds of chakras within our body, the focus here is on the seven major chakras which are located along the spine.

The first Chakra, located at the base of the spine is called the Root Chakra and relates to survival and basic physical needs. Its Sanskrit name is Muladhara which means root or support. Its corresponding color is red. Areas of the body related to this chakra are hips, legs, feet, knees, bladder, adrenals, rectum, bones and teeth. Stones associated with this Chakra include Garnet, Hematite and Smoky Quartz.

The second Chakra. located around the lower abdomen is called the Sacral Chakra and relates to procreation, sexuality and emotions. Its Sanskrit name is called Svadhistana which means sweetness. Its corresponding color is Orange. Areas of the body related to this chakra are kidneys, spleen, gall bladder, lower intestines and genitals. Stones associated with this Chakra are Carnelian and Coral.

The third Chakra, located above the navel and below the chest is called the Solar Plexus Chakra and relates to personal power and metabolism. Its Sanskrit name is Manipura which means lustrous gem. It’s corresponding color is Yellow. Areas of the body related to this chakra are digestive system, pancreas, liver, stomach and nervous system. Stones associated with this Chakra are Citrine, Tiger Eye and Golden Topaz.

The fourth Chakra, located at the center of the chest is called the Heart Chakra and relates to love and compassion. The Sanskrit name of this Chakra is Anahata which means unstruck. Its corresponding color is Green. Areas of the body related to this chakra are heart, lungs, arms, hands, thymus/immune system. Stone associations are Aventurine, Malachite and Peridot.

The fifth Chakra, located at the throat is called the Throat Chakra and relates to communication, speech, sound and vibration. Its Sanskrit name is Visuddha which means purification. Its corresponding color is blue. Areas of the body related to this chakra are throat, voice, jaw, neck, mouth, thyroid gland and shoulders. Stones associated with this Chakra are Turquoise, Aquamarine, Blue Topaz and Blue Lace Agate..

The sixth Chakra, located between the eyebrows is called the Third Eye and relates to inner vision, insight, intuition and clairvoyance. Its Sanskrit name is Ajna which means to know and to perceive. Its corresponding color is indigo. Areas of the body related to this chakra are pineal gland, eyes, nose, ears, tongue and sinuses. Stones associated with this Chakra are Lapis and Iolite.

The seventh Chakra, located at the top of the head is called the Crown Chakra and relates to spirituality, enlightenment, self-realization and knowledge. Its Sanskrit name is Sahasrara which means thousandfold. Its corresponding color is Violet. Areas of the body related to this chakra are pituitary gland, cerebrum and central nervous system. Stones associated with this Chakra are Amethyst and Quartz Crystal.
